Since his arrival at Céline in 2018, Hedi Slimane has redefined the house's identity with surgical precision: out with Phoebe Philo's intellectual minimalism, in with a taut, sexual, and elegant Parisian rock-chic, rooted in the Left Bank heritage and the 1970s-1980s nightclub aesthetic. The Spring-Summer 2020 collection is one of the most accomplished of his Céline period: silhouettes are elongated, materials contrasted, details sharp. These derbies are a representative piece: the shiny black patent leather that gives them an edge, the leopard print calf-hair panels that bring animality and movement, the pointed toe that elongates and asserts. A shoe that leaves no one indifferent and can be worn with as much ease with a tailored suit as with skinny jeans.
